What Is The AI Wiki
The AI Wiki Is The Wiki for AI.
It is meant to make it possible for AI researchers and engineers to collaboratively document key knowledge in the field.
It is also open source, and meant to be modifiable and maintanable by any AI researcher or engineer.
Wikipedia Exists - Why A Wiki Just For AI
With the explosion of research and interest in Deep Learning, there has also been a rapid increase in the number of concepts people in the field need to be aware of. Correspondingly, the last few years have seen many different glossaries get written , as well as many different write ups explaining various essential concepts. Evidently, Wikipedia is not sufficient.
Though Wikipedia does have great pages for important concepts like CNNs, RNNs, and word embeddings, it does not have coverage of more specific but still essential concepts such as batch normalization, attention, and fine-tuning. Having a wiki specifically for AI allows the content to be more specific, technical, and detailed.
- are closed source
- still do not have much content
- are too focused on just machine learning
- have unclear end goals
In contrast The AI Wiki:
is open source
- has been bootstrapped with all existing contents from all these many glossaries (with citation)
- will encompass all of AI and not just machine learning
- has the clear and explicit end goals of becoming a community effort and ideally having a lab take over its maintenance.
Although at this time this wiki is just stock MoinMoin1.9, the hope is that it will evolve as both bloggers and hackers in this community contribute to it.
Such evolution will allow for content creation more appropriate for the community with features such as strong Latex and markdown support, support for Jupyter notebooks, informative interactive elements, integration with arxiv-sanity, and more. The hope is that this can gradually evolve into something beyond just a wiki and become something like a hybrid between distill.pub, informative blog posts such as those written by Andrej Karpathy, and good ol' wikipedia.
How Do I Get Involved
It's a wiki, just make an account and get to editing!
Well, almost... Making this a full-on-anyone-can-edit wiki quickly resulted in a huge amount of spam MoinMoin's built in stuff did not filter, so for now you also need to fill out this very short form before being given rights to modify any content. If you want to help admin, maintain, or develop this site shoot an email to andreyk @ stanford . edu.
